JR Rubinsky, MSW (they/them) is a white, queer, nonbinary Jewish activist from Jackson, Mississippi. They currently serve as the Assistant Director of Sexual Violence Prevention and Education at the University of Houston. They also part-time consult through their company I Believe You, LLC, working with individuals, communities, and companies across North America to end violence. I Believe You, LLC focuses on sexual violence prevention and LGBTQ+ inclusion as a way to end violence in our communities. JR attempts to center the importance of the role of oppression and systems of power in all of their work, believing that all oppression is connected and fighting to end sexual violence must include ending all types of violence. Having engaged in the field for the past 6 years, JR’s passion started when they were a served on a crisis intervention line for three years in undergrad. They received Bachelor's in Psychology and Marketing from Tulane University and a Master’s in Social Work with a focus on Violence and Injury Prevention from Washington University in St. Louis. When not engaging in violence prevention work, JR enjoys playing board games, exploring Houston, and playing with their cat, Lilith.
